Clouds of Cubes

Printer Parameters

Sky

This generator procedurally creates unique cube sculptures. Each click on "New" generates a new formation based on a set of rules and random parameters. The resulting models can be downloaded as STL or OBJ files and used for 3D printing. Experiment with the printer parameters to influence the overall size of the generated structure.

The generated models are collected in a 'cloud sky'. You can navigate through this sky to select any of the previously generated models by double-clicking a cloud. This will then load the selected model into the main viewer on the generator page, ready for download.

In Clouds of Cubes, anyone can acquire a work of art. The artwork is generated by an AI-assisted program. Cube configurations are created that are randomly generated according to certain rules – similar to fractal patterns. An infinite number of Clouds of Cubes can be created. Each one can therefore be an original that differs from all other predecessors and successors. The program, generated by the code author with AI, means that authorship of the objects is lost, and an autonomous authorship is created. Just like shaping or design, it becomes a free variable that can only follow criteria of artistic judgment under certain conditions. It redefines the boundaries between human creation, algorithmic generation, and the unique object. A constantly expanding universe of unique digital sculptures is emerging. What constitutes authorship, work, and unicum?
